Adding Traffic channel
What is a Traffic channel in RedTrack?
Traffic channel (aka Ad network) is where you get your traffic from. It can either be a paid channel of traffic like Google Ads, Facebook, MGID, Propellerads, etc., or your own website with organic traffic. In both cases, it is obligatory to add it to your account.
Traffic channels in RedTrack can be added in one of the following ways:
- Via Template, which means that your Traffic channel has already been integrated with RedTrack and it has a preset table with all the necessary data or maybe it’s not integrated with RedTrack, but we still have the template for this Traffic channel with already preset data.
- From Scratch, which means that your Traffic channel has not been integrated with RedTrack yet and it needs to be added in a custom manner.
Note!
How to add your Traffic channel to RedTrack?
To add your Traffic channel via Template acts as follows:
1. On the main RedTrack menu navigate to Traffic channels-> New from template-> find your Traffic channel in the catalog and press Add:
Note!
When adding Facebook Traffic channel template we can already see that this Traffic channel is integrated with RedTrack via API, allowing the clients to explore such automation features as Cost update, Campaign pause, Pause creative:
For more information about integrated Traffic channels and their features go to the article Traffic channel integration status.
2. Once the form of the added Traffic channel template pops up you need to Save it:
3. To access the added Traffic channel go to the list of Traffic channels-> navigate to the channel's name and press the icon Edit:
4. Since you added this channel from the template all the necessary info has already been preset. At this point, you can edit the following data in the template:
4.1 set the Cost update depth and frequency for your Traffic channel:
Note!
This feature is available only for integrated Traffic channels. Check out the Cost auto-update article for more info on this feature.
4.2 set the needed currency, because in the template it is set by default under your account settings. You can choose it from the Currency drop-down:
4.3 adjust subs in the Additional parameters section. These parameters are preset depending on the integration type. Thus, not all of them can be changed. Parameters not available for editing are marked in grey:
Note!
It's important to use the parameters under the same subs as they are set in the template. Otherwise, the integration will not work.
Tip!
Check out this video explaining how the Roles in RedTrack operate.
5. That's not all you should/may do to your Traffic channel template, but the rest of the changes depend on the added Traffic channel. You may need to adjust the postback URL (if that's how you're tracking conversions), set up the integration or add pixels, etc.
To go on with your Traffic channel settings go to the list of our guides for each Traffic channel-> find your channel and continue adjusting the settings according to your needs as per the article.
In case your Traffic channel can't be found in the templates, you can still add it to RedTrack in a custom way. To do that act as follows:
1. On the RedTrack main menu go to Traffic channels -> choose the option New from scratch:
2. In the New Traffic channel window fill in all the necessary fields:
*data in the screenshot is for you to get an idea on where to put the info, do not copy it word by word, you should insert your own name, currency, s2s postback URL, etc.
- (1) Channel name: insert the name of your custom traffic channel;
- (2) Currency: set the currency of your Traffic channel by choosing it from the drop-down;
- (3) S2S Postback URL: This can be obtained from your traffic channel and contain a valid click id macro supported by this very traffic channel. The click id macro should be equal to RedTrack {ref_id}. If you need to send the payout info, use RedTrack {offer_payout} macro. Set the currency used in your traffic channel (by default, it's the one you set in your profile settings);
Important!
The changes in S2S postback URL are not replicated to your campaign settings automatically, you need to update the postbacks manually in each campaign used.
- Pixel Postback URL: if your channel of traffic supports this type of postback. Do not paste the entire script, just the URL part;
- (4), (5) Click id (for tracking the clicks from your channel of the traffic and associate them with the conversion data and sending the postbacks back to the traffic channel later) and click cost macros.
- (6), (7) Additional tracking parameters: if your traffic channel supports any other tracking parameters, you can add them to your RedTrack account. Like that, those parameters will be added to your tracking link, and all the data your channel of traffic sends will be recorded in RedTrack.
- (8) Assign the needed roles to your parameters. Check out this video explaining how the Roles in RedTrack operate.
