What is click id macro?

It’s one of the core elements of tracking. Click id is generated both on the traffic source and on RedTrack side. This is a unique click identifier that helps to send and receive the conversion data after the conversion happens.

In RedTrack you have 2 elements that require using click id macro for a proper conversion tracking: offer and traffic source postback.
It is also required to use the click id macro in a postback you will be using on your affiliate network side.

Offer

You may have noticed that when you add an Offer to RedTrack a warning message appear:

This warning message stands for you not to forget to add the {clickid} to your Offer URL. Without this parameter, you will not be able to receive the postback information from your affiliate network.

Add it to your Offer URL if you are using some affiliate network: offer_url?affiliate_network_parameter={clickid}.
You can ignore the warning message in case you are buying traffic for your own offers/website.

Affiliate network

If you want to get postback data from your affiliate network you will need to put the postback URL (the one you can take from RedTrack) to your affiliate network. Each time your affiliate network fires this URL we will get the conversion data.

To make this URL work as expected, you need to put {clickid} parameter to it:
http://your.dedicated.tracking.domain.com/postback?clickid={affiliate_network_parameter}.
Affiliate Network parameter is to be inserted with specific placeholders used by your Network ({} or [], or ##, etc.).

It  should be the same as used in the Offer URL (offer_url?affiliate_network_parameter={clickid}).

Postback on the affiliate network side:

Traffic channel

Traffic sources have their own postback templates but they also require using click parameter. It is not {clickid}, in RedTrack we use {ref_id} for that purpose.

1. Add your Traffic Source click parameter to your Traffic Source settings in RedTrack:

It will become available in your tracking link automatically:

This is required to record your traffic source click data in RedTrack (the information traffic source sends us).

2. Add our {ref_id} parameter to your Traffic Source postback URL under appropriate macro supported by your Traffic Source (if you are using a pre-set template the parameter will already be set):

The postback will appear in your Campaign by pressing the ‘Add’ button in the postback field:
